From Our Head of School
I’m proud of the wide variety of exciting opportunities you’ll see as you explore our pages, and I hope you can sense the “feel” of our school as you browse. Almaden Country Day School is a wonderful mix of traditions we all enjoy, like the all-school Pumpkin Carving and Thanksgiving Feasts; a safe, joyful environment for learning; and above all, our strong feeling of community.
Along with the stability of 35 years of tradition, at ACDS we’re constantly adapting teaching methods to prepare our students to meet the demands of a rapidly-changing society. We are committed to helping Almaden Country Day School graduates succeed in a world that is increasingly interdependent and global.
Our academic programs support these aims. In science and STEAM, ACDS students develop projects in teams and pursue creative, iterative solutions to problems. Every elementary girl and boy plays a character in a full-length musical theater production, every year; as a result, at an early age they become very confident speaking to a crowd. Students in every grade level use coding as a basic skill in each of their subjects, not just in a computer class. Through active, engaging lessons and activities, we help children develop six critical skills – creativity, curiosity, teamwork, ethics, time management, and resilience – which we measure each year to help us improve our curriculum and better prepare our graduates for their future.
Our purpose as a school is clear:
- We want children to find joy in learning and to experience success at school, because early success breeds confidence;
- We want to nourish their creativity, wonder, resilience and teamwork in preparation for the demands of the future; and
- We want them to be challenged and well-prepared by their journey at our school.
In the process, our students grow into delightful young people: considerate, concerned, confident and ready to make significant contributions to the world-at- large. At Almaden Country Day School, we prepare children to live extraordinary lives.
Enjoy visiting our website, and I hope to see you during a campus visit soon.
