Board of Trustees

The bylaws state that the Board will have no fewer than 9 and no more than 23 Trustees. The Board endeavors for a make up of 14-16 Trustees, ideally.

Board committees include:

• Alumni Committee: Engages with alumni through newsletters and events.
• Audit Committee: Oversees the integrity of financial statements and reporting process.
• Campus Committee: Manages the Campus Master Plan.
• Capital Campaign Committee (Ad Hoc): Plans and executes fundraising initiatives needed to complete critical projects that exceeds the school’s operating budget (e.g. the FEC).
• Committee on Trustees: Identifies and recruits Trustee candidates.
• Community Engagement Committee: Increases awareness and accessibility of the Board.
• Development Committee: Oversees fundraising efforts (AGC, Auction/Gala).
• Executive Committee: Coordinates and organizes the work of the Board.
• Finance Committee: Reviews audits and makes tuition recommendations.

Board members are asked to serve on at least two committees. This is largely where the work of the Board is accomplished. Committees meet 2-4 times a year, with committee work often delegated among members.

The full Board meets 10 times per year.

Serving as a member of the Board of Trustees requires a serious commitment of time and energy. Because there is a lot of work to do, Board members must be willing to fulfill their obligations, attend meetings, maintain confidentiality, and work collaboratively and honestly for the benefit of the entire school.  Board members are also expected to make gifts to the annual fund and capital campaigns and often play leadership roles in these fundraising efforts.

No, there is no compensation for ACDS Board members.

The Board communicates with the ACDS community via the Mid-Year Update that is sent via email in January.

The Committee on Trustees assesses the school’s strategic needs and goals to determine the skill sets required for incoming board members. It also considers the skills of departing trustees to ensure a balanced mix of expertise from year to year. Once the necessary skill sets are identified, the Committee, with input from the school administration and other Trustees, identifies potential candidates from current and alumni parents. These candidates are then screened and voted on by the Board. Trustees serve three-year terms, with the option to renew their terms at the end of each cycle. Officers are elected by quorum majority on an as-needed basis. Officers include the Board Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary.
