The energy and excitement surrounding the inaugural season of Girls Flag Football at Almaden Country Day School are undeniable! From enthusiastic players to supportive parents and dedicated coaches, this new program has already made a significant impact, fostering teamwork, skill development, and a whole lot of fun under the guidance of Athletic Director Derek McIntyre.

Eve Foster, an 8th grader new to the sport, shared her positive experience: "I’m so proud to be a member of this incredible program. It’s such a great experience. I love the fact that, despite starting this year, I still figured out football really quickly. The coaches are great, the program is so inclusive, and I would really recommend it!”

Fellow 8th grader, Emma Burstein, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the thrill of the game: “Very exciting-- it is an adrenaline rush! I enjoyed playing on the boys' team, but it means a lot to have a team for the girls! I am so happy to be part of the inaugural season.”

The positive impact of the program extends beyond the players, resonating with parents as well. Kim Stoelker, mother of 6th grader Audrey, shared her enthusiasm: “The girls are doing great in their inaugural flag football season at ACDS! They are building a foundation for many fun-filled successes on the field in the years to come. We are grateful that they have this opportunity to play together.”

Coach Derek McIntyre has been incredibly impressed by the girls' dedication and progress. Reflecting on the season so far, he shared, "This inaugural girls' flag football season has been so much fun. The girls have been fantastic with their enthusiasm and dedication to learning the game. We had our league scrimmage a few weeks ago, and I had multiple girls talk to me individually about how nervous they were. I just let them know that this was new to everyone and not to worry. Just go play and have fun."

Coach McIntyre continued, "I was absolutely blown away by how well the girls played that day in the scrimmage for their first game action, and they have improved so much since our first week of practice. We have grades 6th through 8th represented, but they have all been incredibly supportive of each other, and it's been a true team. They are learning their positions and have shown solid skills in catching and throwing the ball on offense and hustling to the ball, and pulling flags on defense. This has been so much fun to coach these Cougars, and I can't wait to see their continued progress this season."

This inaugural season is clearly building a strong foundation for the future of girls' flag football at ACDS. The enthusiasm of the players, the support of the parents, and the dedication of Coach Dererk McIntyre are creating a positive and enriching experience for everyone involved. 7th grader, teammate Emily Rogers shared, “Get out there and be strong and focused -- football is not just for boys, girls can do it too!"
