Social-Emotional Learning: Positive Discipline Cougar Byte Podcast Hint: It’s not what you think it means. Listen to our latest podcast episode drop to learn what Positive Discipline is (and what it isn’t) from Positive Discipline experts Cathy Kawakami and Jane Murphy, why we adopted it as our social-emotional learning philosophy throughout the whole school, and how it works in the classroom AND in our homes. Click here to learn more. Save the Dates: Parent Workshops led by Positive Discipline Expert We are proud to host the following online Positive Discipline parent workshops for all ACDS parents, led by Positive Discipline Lead Trainer Cathy Kawakami. Attending these workshops is an excellent opportunity to strengthen what our children are already learning in the classroom: - Wednesday, December 7, 2022 - The Positive Discipline Framework and How it is Helpful for Building ALL Relationships
- Wednesday, January 11, 2023 - Focusing on Solutions by Making Agreements and Following through with Dignity and Respect
- Wednesday, February 8, 2023 - Practicing Skills for Respectful Communication
All online workshops will run from 7-8 p.m. on Zoom, and the Zoom link will be sent the day of the scheduled workshop. Please Test Before Return from Thanksgiving As stated in the Covid Updates section on our website, we ask that all students and staff complete an antigen test after the Thanksgiving Break, before returning to campus. If you test positive, please reach out to covid@almadencountryday.org. Families and staff do not need to report the results. Update on Masking on Campus for Visitors In alignment with the County Department of Public Health (CDPH), ACDS is suspending the mask requirement for students and adults on campus. The exception is staff who are close contacts, who are required to mask per OSHA regulations. Per CDPH guidance, masks are optional but strongly recommended as a highly-effective measure in preventing COVID infection, supported by our on-campus ActivePure air disinfection systems and MERV13 filtration. Please be aware that depending on conditions, such as significant on- or off-campus exposures, a rapid increase in infections or surge in our school community or county, or any other circumstances deemed by the Administration as a threat to student or staff safety, mask requirements may be reinstated for students and staff at the classroom, grade, or school-wide levels. This may apply to parents, visitors, field trips, and team sports (athletes and coaches) as well, as circumstances warrant. Pick Up Your Copy of Raising Kids! If you didn't attend our 11/3 event to pick up the new book by Sheri Glucoft Wong and Dr. Jorgenson, please visit the front office. The school is providing one complimentary copy per ACDS family. The recording link for the event is available under the Parent’s Corner on the school website. Please use your login credentials to access it. Sheri and Dr. J would appreciate your book review once you’re done reading – please consider leaving a review for Raising Kids on Amazon.com or GoodReads.com. Thank you!
