Apple Seed News Weekly COVID-19 Testing Extended! We are happy to announce that the CARES Act was extended for three months, so ACDS’s weekly COVID-19 testing for all students and staff has been extended. Please log in to your Global Virus Pass account to sign up for the additional testing dates through January 20, 2022. There have been some helpful updates to GVP that streamline the registering process. Later today, you will receive an email about the testing, including updated instructions and the new testing dates. Halloween at ACDS: School-day Events On Friday, October 29, ACDS will have Halloween festivities on campus for our students and staff. Halloween Costumes Please note that while we appreciate the creativity and fun this holiday presents, costume masks and weapons are not permissible in the annual Halloween parade on campus. Costumes may not be demeaning to any ethnic group, race, religion, nationality, disabilities, gender, or individual (staff or student) at the school. Thank you for your compliance. Please note: be sure your child is able to independently put on and take off their costume. Students may wear the costume all day as long as they are able to participate fully in school-day activities. Otherwise, students are able to change into their costume before the parade in the afternoon. Halloween Parade, Grades K-8* The ACDS annual Halloween parade will take place on the blacktop on the afternoon of Friday, October 29. To maintain the safety of our community, the parade will not be open to parents or visitors this year. ACDS will take lots of pictures and share them via Homeroom. *Due to CA licensing requirements for COVID safety, our Pre-K students are in a cohort model this year and cannot mix with our K-8 students on campus. The Pre-K students will have their own Halloween celebration in their wonderful play yard. Halloween Class Parties Students will celebrate Halloween with grade-level parties. Students and teachers will brainstorm fun games and activities to build community across their grade. The celebrations will not include food. Halloween at ACDS - Evening Events Also on Friday, October 29, ACDS will host evening events to celebrate Halloween. Pumpkin Carving - Pre-Kindergarten to 5th Grade Families The Pumpkin Carving Festival is a beloved annual event that we are thrilled to bring back safely this year. Feel free to bring blankets and foldable chairs with you to comfortably relax and take in the entertainment (we ask that scooters and bicycles be left at home to keep everyone safe in dimly lit areas). If you plan to attend with your family, please RSVP so we can plan accordingly. We are thrilled to be able to also have our Pre-Kindergarten students join this family event. If your family is already registered to attend, and you would like to add your Pre-K student to the reservation so your child will have a pumpkin, please email us at info@almadencountryday.org. If you have not yet registered, please use the link below. In order to make this event possible, we are not allowing food or drinks (water is ok), and we require each guest to wear a mask for the duration of the event. We need volunteers! To make this event possible, we rely on parent volunteers for set-up and clean up. If you’d like to lend a helping hand, many hands do make light work. Middle School Social - Grades 6-8, No Parents Middle School students, get ready to show off your favorite dance moves! The first Social of the year will be held from 7-9 pm in the Fisher Event Center. Following COVID protocol, Nanawall doors will be open for air circulation, and masks will be required at all times except when drinking water outside. No food will be allowed, and there will be no slow dancing to maintain physical distance. Costumes are encouraged but not required. There will be a costume contest with prizes awarded in multiple categories. More details to come. Open House - Ambassadors Needed With our first admissions open house coming up on Saturday, November 6, from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., we are looking for parents, alumni and current middle school students to help out with greeting and speaking to families and giving tours of our school. If you are interested in volunteering, please email the Admissions Office or call the office, (408) 997-0424, to speak to Mary Jo Heindel or Amber White. Prospective families love to hear from current parents and students and our alums to learn more about ACDS. We will be reaching out to all the middle school students during school to offer a sign-up opportunity to volunteer. Other open houses will be held during school days on November 18, January 19, and March 2, with one more weekend event on Saturday, January 8. We will need help with all of these great events.
