Birthday Book Squad

Birthday Book Squad Community Service

If you see animated Middle School students roaming campus costumed in long, colorful capes, you are probably witnessing the Birthday Book Squad in action.

The Birthday Book Squad

The Birthday Book Squad, also known as the BBS, delivers gifts of “Birthday Books” to students on their special day. The children take their books home, read them and then donate their Birthday Book back to the library. In addition to their spirited courier duties, the BBS students produce a semi-annual newsletter featuring their original book reviews.

Each year, BBS hosts a school-wide BBS Book Drive. Since the event began in 2007, BBS students have collected more than 6,000 books and redistributed them locally and globally to children in need.

ACDS Library Science 101

Middle school students who want to be even more involved in the library can take this popular elective class.

Students get to test-drive new technology, present reader theater events, learn about the mysterious Mr. Dewey and how a library works, and experience literature through the eyes of the creators.

Author Visits

ACDS students and parent volunteers host creative literary celebrations when we have an author visit campus. See more about how we build student interest in books and reading by welcoming and learning from visiting authors.

“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers."
