Philosophy and Activities
Almaden Country Day School offers families our extended care program for your convenience. We believe that children need a safe, enriched, homelike atmosphere to explore emerging interests and a comfortable place to wind down after a long day at school.
Our teaching staff prepares a variety of non-academic activities including indoor and outdoor play, arts and crafts, stories, walking trips to the park, cooking projects, a quiet time for younger children and a quiet time/homework time for school-aged children. Our staff provides many opportunities for student-directed play, both indoor and outside.

There are two options for attending Apple Orchard: annual enrollment or drop-in. There are advantages to both options.
Option 1: Annual Enrollment
This is the best choice if you plan to commit to a weekly schedule. When you enroll in the Annual Enrollment program you are guaranteed a safe place for your child for each day that you have signed up and you have first priority for extra drop-in care when it is offered. In the instance where a session is at capacity, priority will be given to families who need care five days per week. Annual enrollment is not offered for students only attending one day a week.
Annual fees are paid along with tuition. Rates for each session are listed on the current tuition
Apple Orchard fees are not pro-rated for days that your child does not attend due to school
closures, illness, play dates and/or extra curricular activities.
Please arrive for extended care at the start of the session.
An additional fee will be charged when your child attends Apple Orchard for more
sessions than is paid for in the annual fee. Please refer to our Drop-In Rates below.
Option 2: Drop-in Care
Drop-in care is available only if we have space in the program.
Spaces are limited to a maximum 1:12 teacher to student ratio, and priority is given tostudents enrolled on an annual basis.
In order to accommodate your drop-in care needs, we ask that you make a written
request at least two days prior to when your child will need care if possible. You can either drop a note off with our staff or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Our staff will confirm within 24 hours whether or not we can accommodate your request. A drop-in space for your child is not guaranteed unless you receive confirmation.
In the case of urgent need, please call 408-997-2163, to check if space is available that
day. We will do our best to accommodate last minute requests.
There are daily and hourly drop-in fees. Please refer to the current rate schedule for information. Payment for drop-in care needs to be received by the teaching staff of Apple Orchard on the day your child attends. We can only accept a check payable to ACDS, please write “drop-in care” in the memo area of your check.
Drop-in care is available for free to parents who are volunteering at ACDS. It is available only for students enrolled at ACDS and not for siblings. Care is only for the time period that you are volunteering at ACDS and is subject to availability. Please request enrollment in writing as described above.
Students attending the Apple Orchard Extended Care are expected to bring a snack with them each day they attend.
Student Drop-off and Pick-up
We are required to have parents sign their children in and out of our after-care programs every day. Starting Monday, October 11, Morning Care, Apple Tree, Apple Orchard, and MASH will be using Brightwheel to sign students in and out of care in the morning and afternoon. If your child comes to Apple Orchard/Apple Tree after class at 3:05 p.m. our teaching staff will sign him or her in upon arrival. If someone other than the parent, guardian or caregiver is to pick up your child from Apple Orchard/Apple Tree we ask that you inform us in writing. During school hours, use BrightWheel to message the before- and after-care teachers. For your convenience you can email this to us at email@example.com. Our teachers will ask for photo ID from anyone who is picking up your child.
If your child will not be attending Apple Orchard/Apple Tree on his/her regularly scheduled day due to a play date, illness or extra curricular activity it is imperative that you notify us. For your convenience, our voicemail is on 24-hours a day so you can leave a message at any time of day or night. The direct Apple Orchard phone number is 408-997-2163. You can also send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Late Pick-up Policy

Late fees are to be paid at the time you arrive to pick up your child. We can only accept a check made payable to ACDS. Please write “late fee” in the memo area of the check.
