Student Teacher Placement

Our goal is to place your child in the environment that is best for them and to create balanced classrooms.

When the time arrives to place students in the coming school year’s classes, the following factors are taken into consideration:

  • Input from the current year teacher concerning the child’s academic, social and emotional needs.
  • Diversity in the classroom with regard to academic, social and emotional needs.
  • A reasonable gender balance for the development of social interaction skills.
  • A teacher’s level of expertise in working with any specialized needs of individual students.
  • Any special circumstance that may interfere with a child’s learning at the discretion of the school administration.

We recognize that parents want the best for their children. Parents choose our school because of the nurturing environment, broad enrichment programs and proven academic program.

When parents communicate a desire to select a specific teacher for a child they often refer to another child or parent’s experience with that teacher. However, all children are unique, and a personality shown at home may not be the same as the one displayed in a classroom setting; further, one sibling’s interaction with a teacher may be quite different from another’s.

Our system for teacher placement has proven effective for three decades; consequently, we trust that parents will have confidence in our ability and in the care we take when grouping students into classes. It is impossible to meet multiple parents’ requests for teachers or friends while balancing the placement factors listed above that result in a broad and well-balanced class population. Therefore, we ask that parents do not make placement requests for children. If, however, there are aspects of your child’s learning profile that you feel would be helpful for the administration to consider, please arrange a time to speak to the Assistant Head for that division prior to the summer holiday.

Parents and students are notified of class placements the weekend prior to the first day of school.
